After constant accusation from Dreamy that I have abandoned my beloved Vegetarian Health Food restaurant, I decided to go there again. (Haha.. just joking. It was because I miss the asam fish)

Vegetarian “mutton” bryani. This is very good too. Do give it a try. I think they always maintained their high standards.

My favourite asam fish (comes with white rice and popadam).

Hehe.. How can I possibly not order the world’s best vegetarian char siew, rite? ($3 for two piece of char siew)

Mixed rice. Hehe… my favourite ‘mui choy’ and ‘char siew’.

Mee rebus. Not really nice although it looks really appetizing. No fight with my favourite mee rebus from the Marsiling hawker centre (near Marsiling MRT).

P/S: Crystal, if you are reading this, can you give the directions to the chee cheung fun stall at Marsiling again? I can’t find your directions and I lost my way there. So in the end we ate at Causeway Point.

I went to Vegetarian Health Food again and it happened to be the 15th of the lunar month. I found out that VHF did not serve their specialty dishes, such as asam fish, claypot rice and Japanese set meals, probably due to the large crowd. So we had mixed rice. Even the “char siew” is pre-cut. Usually, the “char siew” would have been in a large piece and they will slice it for you after you had ordered it.

Hehe… this is the third time I’m back for more Char Siew! ~~ Yum Yum…

Other than its mouth-watering Char Siew, this shop also offers the sweet & salty soya sauce stir-fried mock meat. It tasted exactly like how my grandmother used to make them using sliced pork. Hehe… this shop is definitely a godsend to vegetarians like me who still misses meat dishes occassionally. So far, I had resisted temptation to eat meat by picturing the suffering animals on my mind whenever I craved those dishes. Now, I really do not have to even think about those dishes when I can easily visit this restaurant and eat all I want without feeling guilty.

Hehe.. I’ll start this blog with a GREAT FIND that I had encountered recently.

Ever since I became a vegetarian last July, I missed the Char Siew terribly because none of the mock version tasted as good. Till one fateful day. It was Vesak day (31 May 2007) and after we went to the East Coast Park for some cycling and inline skating, we dropped by at the Vegetarian Health Food at Fortune Center. We had spotted this shop a few days earlier when we went to eat at a vegetarian restaurant nearby.

The photos below were actually taken during the second time we patronized this restaurant. During the first time, I forgot to get photos taken as I was quite angry at the rice seller for being rude to me. She kept shouting to me that only mixed rice were left. Why can’t she just inform me politely? However, once we tried the Char Siew from this restaurant, it was well worth another visit. ~~

The Char Siew is roasted perfectly with caramelized bits at the edges. And, the texture is firm just like real Char Siew, unlike rubbery ones I had tried before from various stalls.
